Well, I've finally had a little time to spend to figure out wxWindows.

Much better than last time. The interface is Spartan but functional.
This is a program that, once I'm finished with it, I'll be able to use to post to my weblog. I'll be free from XML-RPC as well And I'll share the code for this as an example after it's finished.
Some of the things I wasn't clear on before about wxWindows were various things such as that a sizer isn't a window (not that I thought it was a window, I just wasn't clear on the relationship between panels, frames, and sizers), that a control expands based on settings on the sizer and not set on itself, and in general how sizers, borders, etc. all work. These things are all obvious to me now, but when I was starting from scratch I just didn't know. I've created a wiki page for me to keep track of the type of things you don't always remember.
I just noticed OpenOffice 1.1 was released a couple of days ago. I've been using OpenOffice 1.0.3 for a long time, and I've been very happy with it. I don't even have Microsoft Office installed, and I don't miss it one bit.
Check out the list of features in 1.1. It can output to DocBook and PDF! Here's their press kit, and you can download it here
Awesome, it comes with a great formula editor.
Holy macraps, via Xkot, you can download episodes of Firefly and see for yourself what a fantastic show it was. Sniff.
And of course, the DVD comes out in December. Mine's already pre-ordered. Get it!
Just came across a new Felicia Day site: http://devoted.to/felicia

“Survey after survey has shown that the desire for material goods, which has increased hand in hand with average income, is a happiness suppressant,” the magazine added.
I didn't think Rush should have quit based on what he said. I heard a transcript of what he said on ESPN, and it's been consistent with some things I've heard him say in the past on his radio program. What he said wasn't racist (even Bill Maher is defending him), and it turns out what he said isn't even inaccurate (which I wasn't sure about because I don't follow football).
When I caught a whiff of some of the hubbub I got a little concerned about what Rush may have said to get him in trouble, and then I heard what he actually said and didn't think what he said was racist. It's a shame he resigned (I wonder whether ESPN asked him, but I get the feeling they didn't). As the author of the Slate article linked above writes: "I mean, if they didn't hire Rush Limbaugh to say things like this, what they did they hire him for?" Indeed. Moreover, I heard that the ratings for that show were up 10% since Limbaugh was on.

Update: After hearing Rush on the radio today, I have a better understanding of why he resigned. It wasn't because he conceded that he was wrong. Rush emphatically still believes that what he said is right. The main reason he resigned, he says, is because he was getting his co-hosts into an uncomfortable controversy they didn't want to be a part of, and he didn't want to do that, so he did what he felt was the honorable thing and left the show.
