War crimes

A great post by Steven Den Beste on the double standards everyone has regarding war crimes.

...even with this kind of care, it seems like everyone out there who can possibly find a reason to do so is tossing around accusations of war crime.

But they're only flinging those accusations at us. In response to absolutely clear and blatant war crimes by Iraq, there has been a notable silence.

In some of the fighting in the last couple of days, members of the Fedayeen have been herding civilians in front of them as they move towards our troops, to use them as "human shields". That's a blatant violation of the Geneva Convention, but I sure as hell haven't heard any massive international outrage about it, or denunciations and condemnations of Iraq.

So where is all the outrage?

Update: Here's a follow up by Steven.

I find that most people arent' outraged by Iraqi war crimes because we knew they where going to happen. We aren't outraged by the Hypocrisy of their speechs because we where expecting that too. It's like that Iraqi official denoucing America because one of their missles killed civilians, when just earlier that day one of their missles landed in Kuwait. It's ridiculous, but we expected no better really.

What seems to annoy most people is America preaching about Iraqi war crimes and violations of the geneva convention, when America itself violates the geneva convention. Hollow Point Bullets, Those Prisoners of War/ Criminals/ Detainees (whatever you want to call them today) and probably more.

Anyway I don't really want to try to create a tally of violations of the Geneva Convention that the Iraqi's and the Americans have committed, because that's pointless, and lets face it, the iraqi's have violated thousands more than the Americans have however anti-American you look at it. I do think though that we should be pointing out the violations that America does more, Simply because America will hopefully change under pressure, whereas Saddam Hussein isn't going to stop firing mortars from hospitals if we protest about his attrocities.

Good thoughts Sparticus. You hit the nail on the head. We expect them to be bad guys, and we expect the US to be by the book. It's tougher, more expensive in lives and money, but it's what is right.

That's a personal view, not a statement of fact. Feel free to disagree.

How can John Kerry call for condemnation of upper level officials in the matter of the treatment of Iragui prisoners. He stated that he himself observed and/or participated in abuses during the Viet Nam war and made no attempt to stop or report these crimes right then. If these things occured he acted as a coward in waiting to report them until he got himself returned stateside. As an officer, if he failed to stop or report the crimes immediatly, he should hace been court martialed and his Military awards and metals returned.

There is a story going around that John Kerry in a feble attempt to quote the Bible and express his faith in a speech during the week of 8/ 15-21. He announce his favorite Bible verse as John 16-3 ( And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me) presumably instead of John 3-16 (God so loved the world) Neither his speech writer, nor he, nor any of his aids knew the difference or caught it. Does he ever get his facts right. Is this quote correct?

According to this that John 16-3 thing is a hoax, surprisingly, one that's also been attributed at different times to both Al Gore and George W. Bush. Supposedly, however, George H.W. Bush actually said it!

I don;t see how yuo can be critical about someone not getting their facts correct. The John 3:16 tale about Kerry has been debunked by Snopes, TrhuthMiners, Truthor Fiction, ect. If you're gonna share your unique inisght about politics with the world, these sites or other hoax-busting sites are indispensable. There are SO many liars who use the Internet ...
