Intertwingularity is not generally acknowledged – people keep pretending they can make things deeply hierarchical, categorizable and sequential when they can... – Ted Nelson

Holy crap, I hate the inefficiencies of business. I'm trying to get info about setting up a merchant account with a bank to accept credit card payments over the Internet. Commerce Bank transferred me around at least five times, and finally told me that an outside company handles it for them, and they gave me that number.

So I call Fleet. For whatever reason I waited through the menu without making a selection, "For rotary dial callers, please wait on the line"... not that I'm using a rotary dial, but I just waited as if I had a rotary dial. So the system forwarded me to its voice mail system! Not the kind for me where I can leave a message, but the kind for employees to check their voice mail. Then I pressed zero because I didn't know what else to do, I got a message saying "Please hold, someone will be with you in a moment", and their system hung up on me.

Update, finally got through to their sales department... they won't let me wait on the phone to talk to someone, they want me to leave me a message and call me back. I'm not going to be home for the rest of the day!

Sun can do FUD with the best of them.

Via PHP Everywhere, DevShed: Socket Programming with PHP. "One of PHP's better-guarded secrets - and one that I discovered quite by accident - is a very comprehensive set of network programming functions. Steadily evolving over the last few releases, this socket programming API now supports almost everything you would need for socket-based client-server communication over TCP/IP, and can be rapidly deployed to build simple client-server applications in PHP."

No way I have time to read it now, but it looks informative.

Alright, I just finished my extra credit for calculus. Keith, I'll have to continue what I was going to say at another time, because I'm going to bed Smiley

Oh, and I'd like to see your "damned nice and flexible calendar generating code". Smiley And what's that about Paul Walsh's "infamous online quiz code"?
