This page is very out of date. I'm in the process of weeding out old stuff and moving the content around. I'd recommend checking out "my essential programs" for links to software I use.
Table of Contents
Note: files on this page are generally listed in the order I'd recommend them, but not always. Some are listed alphabetically, and some have no specific order.

Web Servers
I use Sambar for all local web development. Setting up PHP was easy, and it's the only non-Microsoft server I know of to support ISAPI. Xitami is also good, and it's cross platform. TinyWeb is a tiny web server written in Delphi. It can run CGI's (uses the default windows associations to know what interpreter to use), and it just works. The download for version 1.9 is 182k. Finally, everyone is familiar with Apache, which runs something like the majority of web sites. AOLserver actually runs all of AOLs web properties, and it's open source. I've heard good things. Finally Roxen looks neat, but I haven't used it extensively, and couldn't get it to work right.
- Sambar
- Xitami
- TinyWeb Server
- Apache HTTP Server
- AOLserver
- Roxen - worth mentioning, but in the short time I tried I wasn't able to get it to do anything useful.
- Savant - I remember trying it before and hating it, but I think a new version is out since the last time I tried it. I also just noticed it has ISAPI support. Until I try it again and see if it still sucks, I'm putting it here :)

Palm software
- See my preliminary software list on my weblog.
- Games
- Chess
- Go
- Go for PalmOS - probably the best Go game for the Palm, but I haven't gotten to try it because it requires OS 3.5
- Pilot Go - the Go I use :)
- Pente - not Go, but a very fun, and much simpler, Go-type game
- Card games
- Patience, a collection of solitaire games. Has Freecell! Warning: I think some of the games are unwinnable, or at least close to it ;)
- Railroad, from Scott Ludwig
- Puzzle Games
- Vexed, a fantastic puzzle game. Unfortunately, some of the levels get impossibly hard, and I've stopped playing!
- Shuffle
- Flipper, like Othello or Reversi
- FourTap, from Kristopher Johnson. It's like "Simon" (the memory game), but you can play games with 4, 9, or 16 panels
- Productivity
- Progect, a superb outliner with lots of task management features.
- Utilities
- BlastPad application launcher. Very configurable - I have this mapped to my memo pad button.
- EasyCalc, a fantastic scientific and graphing calculator. I don't need my TI 83 anymore! Really excellent.
- Pilot DB, a great database application for the Palm. You can essentially create your own applications if the Palm doesn't have a program built in that will store your data.
- BigClock, a clock with a lot of features, including timers, alarms, etc.
- DiddleBug - drawing software. It was a must-have for me since my old Palm didn't come with the NotePad application that newer Palms have.
- Document readers or HTML viewers/browsers
- Misc
- OmniRemote, from Pacific Neo-Tek software, will turn your Palm into a universal remote! Seems very awesome, but I can't recommend it myself because I haven't used it.
- Bible Reader - haven't tried it because I don't have enough space on my Palm
- Noah dictionaries for Palm, including the free Noah Lite. I don't have this installed because I don't have enough room on my Palm.

Misc Programmer stuff
This stuff will probably only be useful to a programmer.
Misc Utilitites/Applications
- Terminal apps
- Winamp - also, Nucleo_NLog_v102, my favorite skin
- Iconico - Two cool pieces of software are available here, a screen caliper (better than the rulers everyone uses) and a screen color picker.
- DotColor is another screen color picker
- Small utilities
- Base64 - a utility to convert to or from Base64 encoding
- Qprint - a utility to convert to or from quoted-printable encoding
- MD5summer - a utility for Windows which will calculate the MD5 hash for a file
- MD5 - Command Line Message Digest Utility
- hkSVV - makes SFVs and MD5s, and seems to integrate well with Windows Explorer, though I haven't tried it
- fsum - file checksum generation and verification
- hashcalc - hash, checksum and HMAC generation
- Microsoft NetMeeting
- SnadBoy's Revelation - shows what's behind the *** in Windows passwords. Doesn't work in Windows 2000 or XP, from what I understand. I can't believe I never listed this here
- Always On Top Maker - a simple program that lets you force a window to stay on top of other windows. I use it to make my DVD player stay on top of other things while I'm watching a DVD and doing other things at the same time.
